St. Meinrad monk pens eighth book: Deciding to be Christian: A Daily Commitment

St. Meinrad monk pens eighth book: Deciding to be Christian: A Daily Commitment

“Our lives are full of decisions,” says Fr. Mark O’Keefe, OSB, a monk of Saint Meinrad Archabbey in St. Meinrad, IN. “Although we may not often think about it, the Christian life also is a decision, a life commitment.”

Deciding to be Christian: A Daily Commitment, a new book by Fr. Mark, is a reflection of the Christian life and the foundation to a life following Jesus: its shape, scope, demands, unfolding, obstacles, supports, contexts and goals.

It’s easy to go through the motions of being a Christian or give in to worldly temptations, but deciding to live a Christian life daily will offer a deeper sense of joy in possessing something more important and enduring.

IDOE releases third grade reading test results

IDOE releases third grade reading test results

Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Tony Bennett today announced the results of the first administration of Indiana’s third grade reading assessment, called the Indiana Reading Evaluation and Determination for grade 3 (IREAD-3). Statewide, 84 percent of students assessed during the March 19-21 testing window demonstrated foundational third grade reading skills.

“Our goal is to make sure all students in Indiana gain the reading skills they need to be successful in school and life,” Bennett said. “We know students who do not have these skills by the end of grade 3 rarely catch up to their peers. The IREAD-3 assessment helps educators and parents ensure all children receive the support they need before moving forward with more challenging reading instruction.”

SPENCER CO, IN (WFIE)- Indiana's first village post office is open for business in Mariah Hill. It's a new concept from the postal service to save money, but still provide residents with a post office.

Some small towns are simply having to go without a local office, but in Mariah Hill, Indiana, one cost-effective plan has become reality.

"The village post office offers almost everything that a normal post office would offer, except for, of course, certified mail," said Jeff Bettag, who is owner of Patriot Station Service Center.
