A southern Indiana theatre will feature 19 local actors in the second season of the musical about Lincoln’s Indiana boyhood years.

The two-act musical play A.Lincoln: A Pioneer Tale will debut its second season at the 1500-seat, covered Lincoln Amphitheatre on Friday, June 7. It entertains and educates audiences about Lincoln’s journey from Indiana pioneer to president of the United States through theatre, song, and dance.

“This musical shows that as the boy grew to a man in Indiana, and through determination of spirit and a compassion for the people, this common American achieved greatness. With this musical play, audiences will experience and celebrate the life and times of this extraordinary man through song, dance, and spectacle,” says A.Lincoln: A Pioneer Tale Playwright and Director Ken Jones.

Auditions for the third annual partnership between to southern Indiana theatres will take place later on this month.

Lincoln Amphitheatre and Evansville Civic Theatre will host two auditions for its partnership in the Broadway Classic, Godspell.

Lincoln City: The first audition will be held at Lincoln Amphitheatre inside Lincoln State Park, 15032 N CR 300 E, on Tuesday, May 21 at 6:30 p.m. CDT.

Evansville: The second audition will be held at Evansville Civic Theatre, 717 N Fulton Ave., on Wednesday, May 22 at 6 p.m. CDT.

Lincoln Amphitheatre will host the Evansville-based children’s performing group Tales & Scales in May.

Tales & Scales will present the production of Mice!, based on Aesop’s Fables Council of Mice live at the 1500-seat, covered Lincoln Amphitheatre for two performances and a behind the scenes workshop on Sunday, May 19.

Mice! tells the story of three mice and their quest to rid themselves of a frightening problem-- the farmer’s new pet cat. Only Little Wee, the smallest of the three, thinks there may be more to the newfound enemy than meets the eye.

The Grammy Award winning alternative rock band Switchfoot will headline Holiday World’s “Rock the World” Christian Music Fest in August.

Known for their hits Dare You to Move and Meant to Live, Switchfoot was awarded a Grammy in 2011 and has won a total of 11 GMA Dove Awards, including Artist of the Year, over the past decade.

Switchfoot will be joined on the main stage by Dove Award-nominated Kutless, double Grammy Award-winning Audio Adrenaline and Richmond, Indiana’s own Adam Cappa.

As Lincoln Amphitheatre continues to strive to offer events from April to October, its officials have added another concert event to its spring lineup.  

A Gospel concert featuring the Woodsmen Quartet and Childress Family will take place at the 1500-seat, covered Lincoln Amphitheatre on Saturday, May 4 at 2 p.m. CDT.

“Many of our guests have asked us to consider presenting a concert of gospel music at the Lincoln Amphitheatre, so we are very pleased to be able to offer such a great concert by these high-quality performers. The performances are sure to be entertaining and uplifting to guests of all ages and would make a great spring outing for churches and youth groups.” says Lincoln Amphitheatre executive director Dan Wilkinson.

Amphitheatre opens 26th season with Celtic Spring: Song and Dance

 

Lincoln Amphitheatre’s 26th season will kick off in April featuring a Celtic concert and Irish dancers.

The Louisville-based four-piece Celtic band Guilderoy Byrne will perform along with Kentucky’s Rose of Tralee Annie Wright and the McTeggart Irish Dancers for two performances, 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. CDT, on April 14. An optional meal is available at an additional cost to individuals who purchase tickets at least five days prior to the event. The performances are sponsored in part by Amenity Business & Insurance Solutions.

Ticket prices are $12 for all ages seven and older and $6 for children ages six and under. For group sizes of 10 or more individuals, Lincoln Amphitheatre is offering a $6 per person rate (originally $10)to groups that purchase tickets by Wednesday, April 3.
