Several charged with Tell City Walmart thefts

 

Several people are facing charges after a traffic stop in Cannelton led to the recovery of more than $1,600 worth of property that had been stolen from an area store.

Our media partner, the Perry County News reports that a Cannelton patrolman stopped an SUV for a traffic violation near the Golden Years Center.  The officer noticed a large number of items in the vehicle that had pricing information on them.

A Tell City woman is accused of sexual misconduct with a minor.

Police say the 14-year-old alleged victim was talking about the encounter at school and school officials called police.

The suspect, 31-year-old Erin Conner will make an initial court appearance on Tuesday.  She's also accused of disseminatung matter harmful to minors.

Authorities in Perry County say they attempted to serve a warrant and wound up finding a meth lab.

The warrant was for 34-year-old Joseph Cronin who was wanted in connection to home burglaries in the area.

When deputies went into the home on Bradford Drive in Tell City, they say they found a one-pot meth lab, remnants of other meth labs, and the drug itself.

Perry County Sheriff Lee Chestnut says an ‘Obama for President’ sign was defaced with a spray-painted racial slur, just over a week ago. The sign on Indiana 237, has since been taken down and replaced.

Perry County Democratic Party Chairman Dale Groves says everyone is entitled to their own political opinion, but that there is no excuse for this type of message and vandalism. Chestnut says this act could be considered a hate crime, if a suspect is caught and the county’s prosecutor, Chad Acchiardo, deems it as such.

Who stole an excavator in Tell City?

The Tell City Police Department is investigating the theft of a 2005 Case Mini-Excavator similar to the one shown above.  It was reported stolen early Friday morning.

Police say the model CX50B is believed to have been loaded on a black gooseneck style trailer.  The vehicle pulling the trailer is believed to be possibly a newer model white Ford F-250 with an aluminum tool box and after-market chrome wheels.

ISP still looking for suspect in hit and run death of Boonville man

Wednesday night at approximately 7:51 p.m. CDT the Tell City Dispatch Center received a 911 call reporting a crash on I-64 at mile post 73.5 westbound. Indiana State Police say Kenneth G. Derr, 64, Boonville and his brother Michael W. Derr, 69, Evansville had pulled off onto the north shoulder to change a flat tire on their trailer.

The flat tire was on the left (driver’s) side of the trailer.  Kenneth was in the process of changing the tire when a dark colored, believed to be an older model dark blue small pick-up truck or passenger car crossed over the fog line and hit Kenneth.  Then without stopping the suspect vehicle continued west on I-64.

Meth dealer who became fugitive gets 30 years in prison

A man convicted earlier this year of selling meth in southeastern Illinois and southwest Indiana has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Donald Lee Weidenburner,54, of Louisville, formerly of Evansville, was convicted in March of conspiracy to manufacture and distribute more than 500 grams of methamphetamine, was also sentenced to 10 years of supervised release and fined $500. The offense occurred between August, 2000, and November, 2002, in White, Gallatin, and Saline Counties.
