ISP still looking for suspect in hit and run death of Boonville man

Wednesday night at approximately 7:51 p.m. CDT the Tell City Dispatch Center received a 911 call reporting a crash on I-64 at mile post 73.5 westbound. Indiana State Police say Kenneth G. Derr, 64, Boonville and his brother Michael W. Derr, 69, Evansville had pulled off onto the north shoulder to change a flat tire on their trailer.

The flat tire was on the left (driver’s) side of the trailer.  Kenneth was in the process of changing the tire when a dark colored, believed to be an older model dark blue small pick-up truck or passenger car crossed over the fog line and hit Kenneth.  Then without stopping the suspect vehicle continued west on I-64.

Kenneth was pronounced dead at the scene by the Perry County Coroner’s Office.  An autopsy is scheduled for today in Tell City.  Michael was not injured.

The suspect vehicle has not been located and should have damage to the front right (passenger’s) side.

Anyone with information on this crash is asked to call the Jasper Post at 812-482-1441 or 800-742-7475.
