Spencer County man arrested on drug charges in Pike Co. wildlife area

A Dale man was arrested on drug charges in Pike County Monday.          

An Indiana conservation officer was passing through the Sugar Ridge Fish and Wildlife area when he says he noticed a vehicle parked by a lake on the state property.

As the officer approached a rock ledge area of the lake most commonly used, he noticed four individuals around what appeared to be a campsite.  Upon seeing the approaching officer, one of the individuals alerted the others to the officer’s presence, but the officer was able to detain all four subjects.

Shelby murder trial begins this week

The trial of a Spencer County man accused of killing his stepdaughter is expected to begin today in Warrick County.

34-year-old Ryan Shelby was arrested in November 2009 in connection with the death of 15-year-old Alexis Oesterle.  Her body was found behind a shed in the backyard of the family's home. 

Shelby is charged with murder, obstructing justice, and false informing.  if convicted, he could face the death penalty.

Residential areas of Tell City have been the target of thieves in recent weeks.  Police say most of the victims told them their vehicles were unlocked when the thefts occurred.

Officers say they've made some arrests and some of the items stolen, including a few things of significant value, have been recovered. No vehicles have been damaged so far due to the break-ins.

Hawesville man arrested on Ohio Co. attempted murder warrant

A Hawesville man has been arrested on warrants for attempted murder and assault.

Indiana State Police say 25-year-old Shawn L. McGan was taken into custody at ThyssenKrupp Waupaca in Tell City Friday night.   Warrants had been issued out of Ohio County.  Authorities say it stems from a fight in a church parking lot last fall where the victim was stabbed.

After locating McGan, troopers transported him to the Perry County Jail and he was then returned to Ohio County.

The victim has recovered from injuries sustained in the fight.

Dale man arrested for threatening school principal

A Dale man was arrested Thursday for intimidation after state police and school officials say he made threatening statements to Chrisney Elementary School Principal Julie Kemp.

Detectives from  the Jasper Post launched a criminal investigation after the North Spencer School Corporation called to report that Daniel W. Powers, 37, Dale had allegedly made threatening statements.  These statements were made in such a manner that Kempl perceived that if Powers were to follow through with them, it may lead to her and or her family being harmed.  Troopers say the threats came after she responded to some requests that were made by Powers.

Beginning Friday, March 2, troopers from the Indiana State Police, Jasper District will join with County and Local law enforcement agencies in the Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest, March crackdown on impaired and dangerous driving.

Through March 18, officers will work overtime to conduct high-visibility enforcement activities designed specifically to identify impaired drivers. Motorists will also see an increased number of patrols looking for aggressive drivers and unrestrained motorists during the 17-day mobilization.

Man on probation for marijuana arrested in Evansville

Evansville Police have arrested a 26-year-old Evansville resident on probation in Spencer County for felony marijuana possession.

Jarid M. Baltzell was pulled over for an expired license plate in the 400 block of E. Michigan. Sunday. 

During the stop, an officer says he discovered $566 in cash in Baltzell's pocket and 25.5 grams of marijuana in his underwear. An additional 81 grams of marijuana was found in his car.
