2013 Adventures With Nature set for June 22 at Tipsaw Lake

The 11th annual Adventures With Nature field day will be held at Tipsaw Lake, on Saturday, June 22.  Indiana Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry, Perry & Spencer County Soil and Water Conservation Districts and the US Forest Service continue to work  together to present the event.

Activities will get under way at 9:00 a.m. CST and will conclude approximately 1:00 p.m. CST.

This year’s event will bring new fun and exciting challenges for children.  They will have the opportunity to try their hand at target shooting and archery, SCUBA diving (with parental permission), take a bird watching hike, learn styles of outdoor exercising, and make wonderful crafts as they enjoy music and watch a local artist at work.  A presentation at noon will be given by the ever-popular naturalist Susan Fowler.

The 18th Annual Kids Fishing Derby is this Saturday, May 18 at German Ridge Pond near Tell City. In 2012, the event was a success with 97 kids attending the event.

Thursday will be a special day for area children with disabilities.  About 2,500 along with their teachers and adult chaperones will visit Holiday World Splashin’ Safari for Play Day 2013.

School groups (preschool through high school) from throughout southern Indiana, southern Illinois and western Kentucky will participate in the event.

Farm demonstrations, a flea market, entertainment, raffles, dinners, a quilt show and more are all a part of the the 51st annual Dogwood Festival in Perry County this weekend.

The Southern Indiana Draft Horse and Mule Club will present  old-fashioned farm demonstrations on Saturday and Sunday.

At Leopold Memorial Park, look for chicken and pork-chop dinners Sunday. There will also be a flea market and live entertainment. Serving will start at 10 a.m. For more information, call 843-5036.

For their 2013 season, Lake Rudolph Campground & RV Resort in Santa Claus is investing approximately $4 million in additions and improvements.

Lake Rudolph is adding five new water slides in a complex called Santa's Splash Down WaterPark. Two are fiberglass slides that were previously owned by Holiday World & Splashin' Safari. In addition, an inflatable water slide called the Trippo® will feature three slides. The water slides will open during the 2013 summer season.

The first fiberglass slide will be open and partially enclosed with a length of 344 feet. The second slide will be enclosed and 296 feet long. Both fiberglass slides will use inner tubes. At three stories tall, the Trippo is the world's largest inflatable water slide. It will be a wet slide in summer and may be used as a dry slide during non-summer months. The longest and center slide is 136 feet in length and the side slides are 113 feet long.

Home sales up in Perry, Spencer Counties

Perry County home sales jumped more than 41% in 2012 according to new data released by the Indiana Association of REALTORS. 

The monthly Indiana Real Estate Markets Report today released by the state’s realtors provides year-end data which they say shows that 2012 was a strong turnaround year for Indiana housing markets.

In Perry County, 78 homes sold in 2012, compared to 55 in 2011.  In Spencer County, home sales totaled 143, compared to 131 in the previous year, an increase of 9.2%.

The data includes detached single family homes, condos and townhomes.

The Warrick County FOP will be hosting its childrens Christmas party on Tuesday, December 11 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Every year, the Boonville-based Lodge purchases thousands of dollars in toys and clothes for the children of Warrick and Spencer Counties.  The children are also given the chance to meet Santa at the lodge and have lunch.
