Digital mammography clinic in Rockport March 22

Digital mammography clinic in Rockport March 22

St. Mary’s Mobile Digital Mammography is coming to Rockport next month.

St. Mary’s was the only hospital in the tri-state to offer mobile digital mammography.  Digital pictures can be magnified, adjusted and previewed to see certain areas that regular film cannot.  There are fewer retakes and sharper images.  Digital mammograms use less radiation, making them safer for patients.  All screenings include mammograms and education about breast health and early detection of breast cancer.

On March 22, the St. Mary's team will be at the office of Dr. Lloyd McGinnis on 2nd Street from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Participants must meet the following criteria to be eligible:

Fresh fruits and vegetables out of reach for many in 9th District

Fresh fruits and vegetables out of reach for many in 9th District

8.4% of households in Indiana’s 9th Congressional District reported difficulty accessing affordable fresh fruits and vegetables in the communities where they live, according to Feeding Indiana’s Hungry.  The  rate is is slightly above the national average of 8.2 percent for the same 2008-2010 time frame of the study.    For households with children, 9.3% reported difficulty.

Much attention has been paid in recent years to whether Americans have adequate access to healthy food in their communities, and this new report by the Food Research and Action Center (FRAC) claims to shed  light on such challenges in Indiana and across the nation.

Blood shortage "seriously low"; can you help?

Blood donations nationally have been declining this summer and supplies are at seriously low levels. Though the American Red Cross issued a national appeal for blood donors on July 11, blood products are going out to area hospitals just as quickly as donations are coming in.
