Firefighters called to fire at iron foundry
News

PERRY CO., IN (WFIE)- Officials
at the Tell City Waupaca Foundry plant are
assessing damage from a small overnight fire. Plant officials say no one was hurt in the fire and
damage is expected to be minimal. The fire was concentrated in a hydraulic pump
in part of the plant's cooling system, then spread to a portion of the plant's
roof. Fire crews responded immediately and controlled the fire.

The plant
will be closed during clean up and is expected to re-open Tuesday. Plant
managers are contacting employees regarding their shift status. Plant spokesmen
anticipate customer orders will not be interrupted.

The Tell
City plant is located on 170 acres outside the city limits and
is 480,000 square feet with a workforce of about 1,000 people. Two
cupolas enable the plant to produce several types and grades of iron.
