Two arrested for theft of items belonging to South Spencer football team | News
SULLIVAN, IN (WIFE)- There have been two arrests in the theft of items from the South Spencer High School football team.
At South Spencer High School, there is a strong sense of relief following the arrests of the two men in connection to multiple thefts that took place last month.
Police say both Witvoet and Goforth are in their early 20s. Among other items, police say Witvoet stole iPhones, iPods, and headphones from the visitor's locker room during the October matchup between Sullivan and South Spencer.
Police say shortly after the thefts, a parent of one of the victims received images from one of the stolen phones through the iCloud application. Police then identified where those images were coming from, and they say that's what ultimately lead to the arrests.
Police also say Goforth was helping Witvoet sell the stolen property, though Goforth denies that he ever knew the items were stolen.
"At this time, approximately 42 items. That includes the iPhones, cash, some clothing. The officers tried to do an interview with them, but they were not cooperative. So, at this time, they're not speaking with us anymore," said Sullivan County Police Chief Jesse Molin.
According to the police report, Sullivan High School Athletics Director Otto Clements has agreed to ship back all of the recovered items to their respective owners.
