Teacher awarded Lilly Grant to spend summer in Spain
PERRY CO., IN (WFIE)- A Perry Central teacher has been awarded a Lilly Grant to spend the summer in Spain.
Mary Hagedorn teaches German and Spanish at Perry Central, and she says the $10,000 endowment will allow her to travel throughout Spain to gain a stronger understanding of the language and culture.
Hagedorn says she found out she won the endowment over the weekend.
"I couldn't believe it. It was like, 'Oh my god. I think I won!.' And when I opened it and saw the first line, Congratulations, just tears. I was overwhelmed, absolutely overwhelmed," Hagedorn told 14 News.
Hagedorn says she will be based in Barcelona this summer.
