Identity revealed of man found dead in Spencer County yard | News
SPENCER CO, IN (WFIE)- A man's body was found, Tuesday morning, lying face down in a yard in Spencer County.
His body was found, half-naked, in a yard east of Chrisney near the intersection of CR 900N & 425E.
"We looked out and saw something big laying here in the yard. At first we thought it was our dogs, just curled up, and then my wife actually came out down the hill far enough to realize it was not our dogs," Burke Sibrel said.
Burke Sibrel and his wife didn't know it but the man, 30-year-old Joshua Peters of Newtonville, had been on the property since Monday.
Peters' vehicle had been towed after being found just behind a row of trees on Sibrel's property.
"She's a little shaken up, but she's okay," Sibrel said.
Sibrel found the partially dressed Peters, just after 6:00 Tuesday morning.
"I got close enough to determine he was dead, and that's when I called back to the sheriff's office," Sibrel said.
The death has been ruled accidental. The cause hypothermia.
"He apparently died of exposure to the weather. We found a trail of clothes leading from where his truck had started about a quarter of a mile away, down to where he was found, where he had started taking his clothing off. Which is a good indicator that hypothermia is involved in this type of death. A person ends up getting the sensation they are hot," Spencer County Coroner Robert Fuller said.
Sibrel says he was out in front of his home last night around 8:00 p.m., but didn't see anything.
The coroner believes Peters died around 2:00 Tuesday morning.
