Spencer Co. detours are set up for railroad crossing repairs

SPENCER COUNTY, IN (WFIE)- Spencer County crews will close part of Old U.S. Route 231 and State Road 62 to repair railroad crossings on Monday.

One is near Gentryville, and the other is near Dale.

The closures start at 8 A.M. and should be complete by 2 P.M. on Friday.

The Indiana Department of Transportation is announcing that Old U.S. Route 231 will be closing to repair a railroad crossing south of Gentryville. 

On Monday, April 29, at approximately 8:00 a.m. local time, railroad crews will close Old U.S. 231 from the junction of State Road 162 to the junction of State Road 70 (S.R. 70). Crews will be making repairs to the crossing 0.75 miles south of S.R. 162.  All work is scheduled to be complete by 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 3, weather permitting.

62-year-old Tell City man speaks about what he saw at Boston

TELL CITY, IN (WFIE)- Among the thousands who ran in the 2013 Boston Marathon was a man from Tell City.

Don Knieriem was just another runner who had just completed the race right before the explosions happened. Obviously it was a very terrifying situation but during the ordeal, Knieriem says he saw the best of the Boston community.

"I feel very lucky," says 62-year-old Knieriem, who has run 13 marathons.

He's run the Boston Marathon four separate times, but this is the most memorable.

Voting on gasification plant taking place on Friday

ROCKPORT, IN (WFIE)- Indiana lawmakers are putting the finishing touches on Senate Bill 510 that will decide the fate of the $3-billion gasification plant in Rockport, Indiana.

A joint house and senate committee implemented on Thursday morning and it could put an even tougher strain on this project.

Perry County Memorial Hospital receives grant from Komen for the Cure

The Evansville Tri-State Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure awarded nineteen grants today totaling $516,810.  One grant will go to Perry County Memorial Hospital and its “Our Turn: A Breast Health Program for Women” program.  This program serves under and uninsured women living and/or working in the rural areas of Perry County and Spencer County in Indiana, and Hancock County in Kentucky. Screening mammograms and educational programs will be provided, as well as diagnostic services.  The grant totalled $18,570.

Switchfoot to headline Holiday World Christian music fest

 

The Grammy Award winning alternative rock band Switchfoot will headline Holiday World’s “Rock the World” Christian Music Fest in August.

Known for their hits Dare You to Move and Meant to Live, Switchfoot was awarded a Grammy in 2011 and has won a total of 11 GMA Dove Awards, including Artist of the Year, over the past decade.

Switchfoot will be joined on the main stage by Dove Award-nominated Kutless, double Grammy Award-winning Audio Adrenaline and Richmond, Indiana’s own Adam Cappa.

Kathy Clayton new CFO of Fairfield Memorial Hospital

Fairfield (IL) Memorial Hospital has hired Kathy Clayton as the new Chief Financial Officer.  Clayton comes to Fairfield with 28 years of experience from a Critical Access Hospital facility at Perry County Memorial Hospital in Tell City, IN.

“After 28 years in the same facility, I was ready for a change with new challenges.  I enjoy the hospitality of a small community and when I saw this opportunity present itself, I knew it would be the perfect place to transition to,” Clayton said.

Clayton has worked in many business areas of a hospital and began her career in Admitting, transferred to the Business Office, promoted to Staff Accountant, and continued to professionally advance to the Chief Financial Officer position.  During her tenure as part of the administrative team at Perry County Memorial Hospital, FMH says she assisted in planning a new $50 million hospital and lead the finalization of a $40 million loan for the facility.
