The Spencer County Visitors Bureau has introduced new weekend packages to attract visitors and increase overnight stays during the upcoming fall season. Eight Fall-O-Weekends will take place on Saturdays and Sundays this September and October.

The Visitors Bureau decided to launch Fall-O-Weekends because the county has a lot to offer visitors during this season. The weekends will feature fall scenery, activities such as horseback riding and visiting wineries and a pumpkin patch, new Halloween events like Happy Halloween Weekends at Holiday World and "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" at Santa Claus Museum & Village, and more.

New LED street lights helping Huntingburg, Tell City save money

New LED street lights helping Huntingburg, Tell City save money

The streets of Tell City and Huntingburg are a bit brighter thanks to the hard work of the city utilities and with a little help from the Indiana Municipal Power Agency (IMPA).

IMPA was awarded a $5 million grant by the US Department of Energy through the General Innovation Grant Fund Program, a part of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant, on behalf of its member communities to implement local street light retrofitting programs.  Overall, the initiative involves 11,000 new street lights in 30 communities in Indiana served by IMPA.

The results are now evident in both Tell City and Huntingburg as the utilities have completed the installation of light-emitting diode (LED) street lights in the communities.

How to get your Santa Claus postmark

How to get your Santa Claus postmark

The Santa Claus Post Office will offer the 2011 special holiday postmark to the public starting December 1. The “picture postmark” will cancel the postage stamps on holiday mail throughout December again this year.

This famous small-town post office is the only one in the world with the Santa Claus name and receives over 400,000 pieces of mail in December. About 11,000 letters are sent by children from all over the world in hopes of getting a response from Santa. These letters are answered by “Santa’s Elves” at the Santa Claus Museum and returned to children with the holiday postmark. The Santa Claus Post Office has offered the special postmark every holiday season since 1983.

“The Santa Claus holiday postmark has become the most popular in the nation over the past two decades,” says Postmaster Marian Balbach. “Postal patrons worldwide request the picture postmark each year and many customers traditionally drive hundreds of miles to personally obtain the famous cancellation on their holiday mail.”
