The 18th Annual Kids Fishing Derby is this Saturday, May 18 at German Ridge Pond near Tell City. In 2012, the event was a success with 97 kids attending the event.

The 2013 Perry County Leadership Class will be raising money  via a fun Run-Walk event on Mother's Day, May 12.

"Run For Your Mother" will take place beginning at 8:00 a.m. with a start point of the Tell City Depot, 333 Seventh Street, Tell City.

Weather will soon be prime for hiking in Hoosier National Forest

 

The weather will be getting warmer toward the end of the week.  That means it’s a great time for hiking and the Hoosier National Forest is inviting area residents to get out and explore.  There are over 260 miles of trails available for hiking in Hoosier National Forest.

In addition, hikers can go cross-country almost anywhere on the national forest.

A benefit run/walk to help raise funds  for three area organizations will take place in the woods Abraham Lincoln walked as a boy. 

The Department of Natural Resources, Friends of Lincoln State Park, and Lincoln Amphitheatre will co-host the fourth annual 5K run/walk on Saturday, May 4 at 9:00 a.m. CDT in Lincoln State Park.

Dubbed Mr. Lincoln’s Neighborhood Run, the 5K run/walk route will start and end at Lincoln Amphitheatre’s parking lot. The route will consist of the park paved roadways.

Christmas Lake Golf Course will host its annual Spring 2 Man Scramble/Alternate Shot scramble on Saturday, April 13, and Sunday, April 14.

3-on-3 basketball tourney coming in April

3-on-3 basketball tourney coming in April

The Perry Co. Power of Youth is hosting a 3 on 3 Co-Ed Basketball Tourney on Saturday, April 6 at William Tell Elementary. 

The entry fee is $25 per team and the deadline to register is April 4.  Registration forms can be found outside the Perry County High School Office, at the Tell City Mayor's Office, CVS, or online here.

There is a maximum of four people per team.

It's a fundraiser for the Power of Youth Grant Cycle, which will focus on youth and wellness.

Hunter education class in Spencer County

Hunter education class in Spencer County

The Spencer County volunteer hunter education instructors, along with Indiana Conservation Officers, will be conducting a hunter education class on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, March 19-21, 2013. The class will be held at the Cornerstone Methodist Church in Chrisney, from 6:00pm until 9:30pm each evening, and attendance is required all three nights.

This class satisfies the requirement for anyone born after December 31, 1986 to purchase a hunting license. There is no cost to attend, and the class is being sponsored by Ayer’s Sport Shop in Gentryville. There is no age requirement for the student, but good reading skills are recommended.
