State Road 66 to close in Cannelton as reconstruction continues | Transportation
Work continues on the State Road 66 (S.R. 66) roadway reconstruction project in Cannelton and the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is announcing that State Road 66 will be closing.
Beginning Wednesday, May 16, contractor’s crews will close S.R. 66 from State Road 37 (S.R. 37) east junction to State Road 237 (S.R. 237). The actual point of closure will be on S.R. 66 (Seventh Street) in Cannelton between Madison Street and S.R. 237.
The closure is necessary to allow crews to install new drainage structures under and along the roadway. They will also build the new drainage inlets, curbs, gutters and drive entrances through this section. It is anticipated the roadway will re-open to traffic by the end of September.
No through vehicle traffic will be allowed, however local residents will have access to the point of closure. The official detour will follow S.R. 37 and S.R. 237.
Once this work is complete, crews will then begin paving the roadway. The overall project completion date for this project is October of this year. Gohmann Asphalt & Construction of Clarksville, Indiana was awarded the $2.1 million project that also includes ADA compliant sidewalks, updated lighting, signs and pavement markings.
