Local road projects part of INDOT fund distribution

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) Vincennes District announces that $8.8 million in Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) funding will be distributed to six communities including one in Spencer County.

Projects receiving funding include the Tell City’s River Road project, Crawford County’s bridge over Norfolk Southern railroad, City of Petersburg’s truck route project, Pike County’s bridge over Patoka River, Dubois County’s Holland Road project and Daviess County’s Cannelburg Road Project, Phase 2.

Funds will be used for projects in the following categories: Group III, Group IV, Local Bridge, and Transportation Enhancement (TE)*. Funds for new projects will cover development and construction of new road and bridge projects to be constructed in federal fiscal year 2015 (October 1, 2014 - September 30, 2015).

The majority of funds will go to recipients with existing projects, giving them the backing they need to complete their projects. With these funds, local groups partner with Governor Mitch Daniels and INDOT to build and improve Indiana’s infrastructure. To obtain the funds, presentations were given by the locals at the District office to show scope and need for their projects. The final selection was made by INDOT’s Local Public Agency Project Selection Committee in Indianapolis.

Vincennes District Deputy Commissioner Rusty Fowler stated, “INDOT is pleased to continue to work with local communities and see their priority projects become funded and built.”

The award letters have been sent to the communities and a complete posting of recipients is available on the state’s website at http://www.in.gove/indot/div/projects/LPASection/

It should be noted that the award amounts are contingent upon funding availability through Congressional Appropriations.
